Lunch and Snack visit Eastern U.S. ~ August, 2010. |
Lunch and Snack visit the City of Brotherly Love - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania! |
The first stop is the Liberty Bell, one of the national symbols of the United States. With Independence Hall in the background, the bell draws millions of visitors from around the world. |
"Gee, Lunch. This is an important spot in the history books." The cows look over the room in Independence Hall where the U.S. Constitution was signed. |
"Ah! This should quench our thirst!" A visit to the historic City Tavern proves to be worthwhile with a couple of beers based upon recipes passed down from the Founding Fathers. |
Lunch and Snack make their way to Penn's Landing along the Delaware River to find the excursion boat Philadelphia Belle starting its journey. The Benjamin Franklin Bridge in the background connects Philadelphia with Camden, New Jersey. |
"The ferry's about to leave. Let's take a ride!" The cows board the RiverLink Ferry that carries passengers from Penn's Landing to the Camden waterfront. |
The Camden City Hall building serves as a landmark as Lunch and Snack pay a short visit to the New Jersey side of the Delaware River. |
The skyline of Philadelphia stands tall as seen from the middle of the river. |
Next stop: The Big Apple! Lunch and Snack marvel at Times Square in New York City, often called the "Crossroads of the World." |
A trip to the Empire State Building was an immediate draw for bovine interests. Although it's no longer the tallest building in the world, the skyscraper still maintains its towering prowess. The art deco-style structure rises to 1,453 feet at the top of the pinnacle tower. |
As the sun goes down, the lights come on! |
The cows are dazzled by the glow of the big city from the 86th floor observation deck, 1,050 feet above street level. |
As wonderful as the view is from the observation deck, there's still the tower to go! The cows had tickets to the 102nd floor - a whopping 1,211 feet high! |
Even looking through the thick glass, the view from the 102nd floor was impressive, especially to bovines. |
After the exhilaration of the Empire State Building, the cows head for Ground Zero the next day. Also known as the "Freedom Tower," One World Trade Center begins to rise on the site that once held the twin towers of the World Trade Center. When finished, it will be the tallest building in North America. |
The Ground Zero site is a flurry of construction as crews work to revive the World Trade Center complex. |
Across the street from the World Trade Center, the Winter Garden of the World Financial Center provides a respite from the construction frenzy. |
From one symbol to another, Lunch and Snack have their tickets to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Both sites are maintained by the National Park Service. |
The boat arrives to take the cows out into New York Harbor. |
The Statue of Liberty stands out as a symbol of the United States against a backdrop of the New York skyline. |
"There's a lot to learn here, Lunch." The cows take an audio tour around the statue on Liberty Island. |
As part of the excursion, Lunch and Snack visit nearby Ellis Island, where thousands of immigrants first set foot on American soil from 1892 to 1954. The site is now an immigration museum. |
The cows look across the Great Hall where newcomers were processed by immigration inspectors. |
"Gosh Snack, this sure is a beautiful view. New York is a beautiful city." |
"Wow! Times Square is even more magical at night! Look at all the lights!" "Forget the lights, Lunch. Look at all the PEOPLE!" |
No trip to the Big Apple would be complete without a stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge. It's one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States connecting the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn across the East River. |
"Ahhhh! This is more like it for us cows, Lunch." The cows wrap up their trip to New York by spending the afternoon in Central Park, an oasis in the middle of the big city. |
Lunch and Snack pay a visit to the "Imagine" mosaic in Central Park's Strawberry Fields. The site is a tribute to musician John Lennon, who was murdered a short distance from the site in 1980. "Imagine what music he might have made if he were still around, Snack." |
"What a way to spend the day, Lunch." A visit to Sheep Meadow in Central Park gives the cows a final chance to soak in the city from a spot that's good for grazing. |
